The last few weeks has offered us, in the Melbourne area, some exceptional autumn weather. The ideal conditions for almost any outdoors activities, even getting on with some long awaited maintenance work around the place, never a dull moment at Wedgetail .
The wine ferments are finished, and it’s looking very good, with plenty of fruit concentration. The leaves have put on a glorious show of brilliant reds and yellow as to show a sense of “job well done” (now we could go to sleep). Perception of nature is open for interpretation; of course, looking after the vines all year long amplifies this perception.
This month Special is from our museum stock. Still a popular wine on the list of Grossi Florentino and the Flower Drum in Melbourne the 2016 Single Vineyard Pinot is as impressive as ever. The wine has a solid structure and delivers what you expect of a good mature pinot noir. There are a dozen or so cases left, if you are tempted don’t hesitate. Normal Cellar Door price $44. Special this May only $35.

Since most of the wine making start’s in the vineyard, in was imperative to choose a site that would offer as much complexity and diversity as possible. Single vineyard wines are more at the mercy to their terroire than regional blend. To preserve the single vineyard characteristic at Wedgetail we employed a minimalist approach to wine making, which means less interference that leads to less additives, less pumping and filtering. The purity of the fruit is blended for an absolute delectation.
